I am considering the UCI Public Health Policy major and i wanted to know if anyone could provide feedback on their experience and the reputation of the program?
Any information would be very helpful!!

I highly suggest taking econ 123a and econ 123b as electives.

/■■■■■

Background of myself: I was a transfer admit to UC Irvine for September 2011. I entered as Biology, but switched to Public Health Policy in January (off the record). Including this quarter I will have taken seven upper division courses in public health policy.

Based on electives, I feel adequately prepared to work in management positions and policy making positions already. Most of my public health and health care courses were left for my final year, but based on the classes I have taken some are waste of your time and some are super interesting and useful (really depends on the teacher). There is one software type class offered, but none statistical. Definitely doable with 16 units a quarter and working 20 hrs a week.

Public Health Policy will deal with more management, psychology, what types of policies have worked, making sure what you envisioned was what was implemented, why these types of people tend to get sick more often…
It is very different than Public Health Sciences which is almost (at UCI) a Biology degree with two basic classes in Public health plus an environmental Science course and Epidemiology course (which is taken by policy too).

Check the major requirements. I highly suggest trying to plan things out. DO NOT plan on taking econ 123ab as they have A LOT of prereqs(Stats 120ABC, Econ 105ABC) and are up there in terms of rigor(unless you want to either double major in Math with an Econ Concentration or Quantitative Economics)

The requirements are listed below.
