Public History

Hello everyone. I have some questions about Public History programs.

What is the job market for a P.H. grad student?

Do many schools offer funding for P.H. students?

How selective are P.H. programs? Does "prestige" matter?

Do dual degree programs such as MLIS/Public History open up significantly more opportunities?

I'm a year and a half from graduation, and Public History is a field that has caught my eye, being a somewhat practical application of my liberal arts degree. I'm a Philosophy/History double major with a fair amount of Comp. Sci as well, and doing the MLIS/P.H. or just P.H. seems like the direction I'm leaning. However, I'm terrified of racking up significantly more debt, and not finding employment, and those fears are causing me to consider more practical options. Any and all information about this career path/program would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Additionally, if anyone knows of any communities in which I could find an answer to these questions, please feel free to post. I’m at a bit of a standstill, and can’t find any more information than is supplied on the websites of universities or organizations.

I’m finding it hard to seek anyone out who has any personal experience with this at all.
