Public Interest Law and Rutgers

i want to have a tangible and positive impact on the world and also make enough to pay my student debt. i'm also a very verbal person and enjoy public speaking and debate. i think i want to be a public interest lawyer. i think i should go to a school that offers an LRP and some chance of merit-based scholarship. my state school is rutgers- i also live close enough i could commute rather than dorm. i understand rutgers has a fine reputation in general and a focus on public interest. any thoughts on ru or any other suggestions? i will be pretty well indebted from undergrad and really don't want to bury myself too much further.

Go to the most economical school you can if you already have debt. If you graduate at the top of your class at Rutgers, many doors will be open to you - including making a lot of money at a large firm for a few years and then getting into public interest law - or focusing on public interest law right away.

thank you very much for responding- i guess rutgers would be the most economical unless i were to get a massive merit scholarship somewhere else, and hopefully i'd get a good amount of money to go to rutgers- and then i could avoid the costs of living out of state.
do you have any experience with public interest law, career paths within it?

I don't have experience in that area - the majority of my work is done with large firms. Many law school websites have quite a bit of information on public interest law.

thanks again cartera- i've explored the rutgers website but unfortunately i know that information put forth by universities doesn't always match real life. i've been all over the equal justice works guide to lawschool but still would love to get other people's advice and possibly get in contact with someone in public interest law or who's thought about it.
