I think UVa wants to become more “private” while Sullivan has a more traditional approach to what a public university should be like. I would not be surprised if UVa’s next president cam from a private university.

I hear that Chicago, Michigan and Texas are the frontrunners. I think she is likely to go for one of those three. It it going to be a tough decision to be sure.

Alexandre - Why would Michigan want to let Coleman go for Sullivan?

I don’t see any of those 6 universities hiring Sullivan, except maybe Michigan or Texas.

Wayneandgarth, Michigan changes presidents every 8-10 years or so. Harold Shapiro was president from 1980-1988, James Duderstadt was president from 1988-1996 and Coleman became president in 2002. She really has served longer than usual and it is not inconceivable that she may wish to step down in the near future, should the circumstances be appropriate. The exception was Lee Bollinger who only served 6 years and resigned early as he had the opportunity of becoming president of Columbia, his lifelong dream.

Goldenboy, Sullivan is an excellent admnistrator. Any university should be delighted to have her as president. At UVa, she was extremely popular among both faculty and students. When you couple that with the fact that she is currently president of an elite Southern university and that she is a Chicago alumna, it is not surprising that Chicago (Zimmer has been president for 6-7 years already) and Duke (Brodhead has been around since 2003 or 2004 I think) would possibly be interested in her. I agree that Cal seems like a strange candidate.

Berkeley for the weather & the prestige!! Still, as many have alluded above that privates as well as returning to UM are all on the table for the well-liked Sullivan - alumna of Michigan State University. :D

“While the future at the University remains uncertain, Sullivan’s future includes many job offers. We’re told Dr. Sullivan already has offers from Michigan, Duke, Chicago, Texas and Berkley.”

“I don’t see any of those 6 universities hiring Sullivan, except maybe Michigan or Texas.”

Funny, I count five universities. But then again, I’m not expert in academic faculty/administration hiring like you are goldenboy. Geez…

Which just goes to show you that talent can come from anywhere Sparkeye. I hope she makes it back to Michigan in the future.

I am soooooo glad that you finally have this realization that besides Michigan, there are also numerous institutions out there (and around the world in fact) which had contributed a century or more excellency in higher education. :p

I agree Sparkeye. THE Michigan Agricultural College has some of the best animal husbandry programs out there. Good field turf program too I hear. :-)
