My Daughter is interested in Public Relations. She has taken the SAT once and got a 1950 (1400 without the writing section) Her grade point average is 3.9 with several AP classes. She has decent EC: Key Club, NHS, META, HOSA and is very involved at her church. She did play sports for 2 years but then did not make the cut for Varsity.
What are some good schools she could look at for a Public Relations major? Pepperdine? TCU? are the only ones we have found so far.
University of Georgia has a very strong Public Relations major / department.
Many times Public Relations is a part of Mass Communications. As you mentioned, some schools have specific programs.
Is she interested in any part of the country and since she is active in the church a religiously affiliated school?
Eastern schools that come to mind are Boston University, Syracuse and St. Bonaventure.
Thank you for your replies. BatesParent2019 - she would like a warmer climate if possible and if not a Christian school than at least a more conservative school that would accept her beliefs.
The internet is your friend: http://study.com/best_college_for_public_relations.html
There are other such lists. Find them and do a cross-reference to get a more complete list. Then got to the Common Data Set, Section C, for each school (again, google it), and check your daughters stats against those of the admitted classes. That will give you a good sense of her chances - as well as lots of information about the school itself and how they handle admissions.
Alabama looks good and wasn’t even on our radar.
Thanks
If TCU is on your radar (I didn’t go back to your first post and repeated it), maybe SMU too?
Florida Southern College. They have good financial aid, and are big on internships. It is a small nominally Christian, somewhat conservative school with great weather. Also a beautiful campus.
I am an Advertising major and was undecided between TCU and Pepperdine. I ultimately chose pepperdine and am so glad I did because LA is more likely to have jobs I want after graduation (working for Entertainment groups) Is more religion based than TCU (by a mile) and is one of the only schools to have Advertising as an Independent major instead of just mass communication. Also Pepperdine Alumni are notoriously generous and love giving back to the students. Good luck!
University of Alabama has one of the best PR depts in the county. It is consistently ranked in the top 5, sometimes #1 or #2.
With your D’s 1400 M+CR, she would get free tuition at Alabama.
Yes, Alabama is your friend: http://scholarships.ua.edu/types/out-of-state.html
Consider majoring in English or Communication Studies and minoring in General Business, or majoring in Marketing and minoring in English. With a PR major, D will be in a smaller box when looking for work, plus it greatly limits her school options.
