Does anyone know how good of a field this is? As in money making and job opportunities?

Also, what schools have good public relations/communications programs in the Northeast?

Thanks

Hey I am wondering this too. I am a freshman at a school on the east coast and have been think about majoring in this, but am skeptical because it is in the college of communications at my school and communications is typically looked at as an "easy" major. I am in the honors college at my school so I don't want to take the easy way out, but I love to write and hate math and science and PR sounds interesting. Like you though....I don't know the job scenario and money is always a question....I've researched, but can't find a consistent answer!

Yeah, I've looked all over the internet and some say they make pretty good money and some say...well not so much. Same thing with the job opportunities.

If you are interested in public relations, consider a degree in Marketing.

It's a little different, because you'll have to take the Accounting and Management type stuff that's required for all Business majors, but Marketing is closely related to PR and typically makes a bit more than PR. Plus, a business degree is for some reason exalted by employers.

However, if those Business classes bore you like they do me, you might be able to major in PR and minor in Marketing, getting you experience in both fields. Plus you'll take classes that will help you fine tune those speaking and writing skills that you'll end up needing.

Unfortuantely for me, I'm not good at math at all and being a marketing major requires a lot more rigorous math classes than being a PR major.

But I would not mind minoring in marketing.
