Hello everyone. I'm looking to see if I could find a public speaking competition as something to do this year now that my run in FBLA's impromptu speaking competition is over. I took 1st place in Suffolk county(long island New York), then 1st in New York State, and then went on to compete in the national competition in Anaheim California in impromptu speaking and there is no way I can reach such success in any other speaking event in FBLA this coming year so I need something else. I also took 2nd place in Suffolk in public speaking 1(a prepared speech) and had yet to get less than a 100 on a presentation in any class including AP Lang. In addition I have experience as an orator to crowds of over 300(FBLA was 3 judges so opposite end of the spectrum) as part of peer support club and canvassed to over 500 voters and called 1000's during an internship for Congressman Tim Bishop, working on my speaking skills like voice projection, persuasion, and etiquette. I'm going for the American Legion orator scholarship this year, but I'm looking to compete more than once this year because its something I take pride in being good at, and especially because it makes me kind of unique on applications and it's a skill I can employ all my life. So, can anyone suggest any speaking (impromptu or pre-written) competitions for a kid in New York? Ill even chance or get back to people in exchange ( I know its not a lot, but it's all anyone can do on this website 😕)

Not sure if question or brag thread…

Well done though, very impressive. I hope you find what you’re looking for!

It’s a question. Just wanted to make the qualifications clear and not just say I’m going for the heck of it. Know any organizations that offer competitions?

Does your school have a forensics team? There’s always the new York state forensics league. That’ll build the connections you want for scholarships and the like.

No forensics team. I do FBLA and compete that way, but that’s all my school offers competition-wise besides Ocean Bowl which I’m not a part of.
