Public transport in Madison

How easy is it to get from the airport to UW? I'm planning on visiting mid-April, and before I book any airline tickets I want to make sure that it's easy to get from point a to point b without a car.

I doubt it's really that difficult, but I just want to check. Will be traveling by myself so... you know, just want to research beforehand!

Thanks for the info :)

Cab is the easiest (not sure the cost these days) and faster (<15 minutes).

For $1.50 and an hour, METRO bus (#24) can take you from airport to the North Transit Point and then #2 will take you right through the heart of capital and campus (university ave). #2 itself is actually a great 50-minute ride for one to sightsee both the campus, the capitol and surrounding areas. Use the trip planner on METRO website. http://www.ci.madison.wi.us/metro/

Do you know anyone on campus who may give you a ride or temporary housing?

If direct fares to MSN are high, consider flying into Chicago (ORD or MDW) and then take Van Galder right to the Memory Union ($25, ~3 hours each way). See http://www.coachusa.com/vangalder/ss.ohareairport.asp Of course, you can try Milwaukee too (MKE).

I recall some of the hotels on the east side that offer free transportation to/from airport will stop by campus.

I was thinking a cab to get to wherever I decide to stay from the airport, and from there walk and use the bus.

Unfortunately I don't know anybody on campus, so I need to figure it all out myself ;p

No worries though, I imagine it'll be a lovely trip. Plus, I'm going to give myself an extra day or two to explore the campus/city itself after the actual sessions with the admissions people.

PM me if you want to me look up any current students from your hometown or HS. Unless you are the kind who like being "LOST" and enjoy finding yourself. ;) Have a great trip!

Haha! Thanks for the offer :)

I'll keep it in mind!

When you're on campus use the free bus, be sure to check the visiting UW website information for a lot of info, and definitely check the campus visitor's center. Wear comfortable shoes!

addenda- click on the visiting campus line at the top of the UW home page, site gives transportation, lodging, visitor center hours, etc.

call badger cab. they are the cheapest! (608)- 256-5566. i am an oos student and i rely on them to get to and from madisons airport. once you are on campus there are free buses that do different campus loops. the 80,81,82, and 85 are all free. if you pull up the campus map on the UW homepage, you can click on the little blue bus symbols and then click on the route number to see where on campus they go. I am also willing to help ya out if you need someone to "tour" you around, pm me if you want.
