I did google already. But, just in case, do any of you travel from Arcadia to UCLA? What public tranportation do you take?

Vanpool: [Vanpool to UCLA From BURBANK/GLENDALE/PASADENA](http://www.transportation.ucla.edu/apps/gen_apps/vanpool/vans1.asp?area=BURBANK/GLENDALE/PASADENA)

Bus/rail would be insanity given the distance.

^+1

The van stops right at the Pavilions by my house. =D

I thank you so much!

OP–
It’s Sirinya here from UCLA Transportation.

Vanpool is a very popular option for students who need occasional rides. A lot of students hop on vanpools for rides home on the weekends. The thing about vanpool is that they are timed primarily for the staff members who volunteer to drive them. On the upside, they get in early in the morning, so you should make it to class on time on Mondays.

Given the distance you can cover in a vanpool, it is very cost and time-effective. And if you’re going out to Arcadia, the vanpool hops into the El Monte Busway on I-10, which is sweeeeet and super fast. The one-way fare between UCLA and Arcadia is $7.

Of course, this is all on a space-available basis. And you have to do some grunt work-- you have to email or call the driver to find out if there’s space for you.

Email transportation@ts.ucla.edu or dial 310-206-RIDE to obtain more information on a specific route and seat availability.

Oh! And don’t forget about Zimride. Zimride is UCLA’s official ridematching service. You could try posting a ride request, esp. if you are trying to find a carpool for a regular commute: www.zimride.com/ucla.

Good luck!

Vanpool - for all intesnive purposes as a student, sucks ass.

The whole point of the program is for working professionals who work 7-4, 8-5, etc… not for students who only have class for, maybe 3-4 hours a day.

I live next to Arcadia and commute daily. Gas sucks, yeah, but it’s still cheaper than housing, it’s more convenient (for me anyways), and I like driving, so yeah - oh and if you can find someone to carpool with, its even better (assuming you have roughly the same timing schedule for classes).

@Sirinya Thanks for your post! I will be incoming freshman. I was looking for some possible rides to my grandparents’ house when I need, as the bus trip may need more than 2 hours and tranfer 3 lines.

I am grateful to know vanpool service in UCLA. I take as long as it is manageable, it is fine to just pay for $7 x 2 for a round trip when I need?

GetInUC - you’ll have to come into our office to buy one-way tickets in advance of your trip. Our office is located on the 1st floor of the Strathmore Building, which is also the same building that the Career Center is in. (It’s a good place with which to familiarize yourself.) The hours are 7:45AM-5PM, and Transportation does not close for lunch.

Thanks so much!
Two questions for you.
(1) The time table [Vanpool to UCLA From BURBANK/GLENDALE/PASADENA](http://www.transportation.ucla.edu/apps/gen_apps/vanpool/vans1.asp?area=BURBANK/GLENDALE/PASADENA) “UCLA Arrive Time” means “The time that the van arrives in Arcadia”?
(2) Do you think if the van will be availabe during the freshmen orientation in summer? For example, 6/28, 29 and 30.

@sirinya

please ignore my first question as I saw the details of the time table.
I still want my 2nd question to be answered. Thanks!

I wish I had a more definitive answer for you, getinUC. Since you’re looking to be an occasional rider (as opposed to a rider with a permanent seat on the van), you’ll have to wait pretty close to the day you need a ride to find out if there’s a seat for you. Sometimes vans aren’t full, but often, they are full (meaning, they’ve got 11 permanent riders), so you have to find out if someone isn’t coming to campus that day.

You’ll still need to find a way to our office to buy your one-way tickets; unfortunately, we don’t sell them through the mail.

Good luck!

I don’t really know of any public transportation from Greece.

@sirinya

Thanks for your reply. I will visit your office soon in my orientation. Thanks for the info again!
