Does anyone know the fastest and cheapest way from UCSB to UCLA and back using public transportation. Bus, amtrak, metro, ill take anything lol

It’ll probably be more convenient to fly from LAX-OAK for $100 with Southwest. Quite possibly cheaper too.

There’s also the Flyaway bus that takes you from UCLA to the LAX and from OAK you can take the BART to Berkeley

One of these things is not like the other.

Ya, Berkeley would be UCB, UCSB is Santa Barbara :)

There’s probably other ways to do this, but plugging it into Amtrak, you’d either ride the Pacific Surfliner train from UCSB, get off at the Van Nuys station, and then take an Amtrak bus from the Van Nuys station to the Westwood- UCLA one. Alternately, for 5 bucks cheaper, sometimes, you can take the 11 Coast Starlight, which, I’m not sure if it’s a train or bus. Looks like train. Either way, same deal, get off at the Van Nuys station.

I can probably look up other options with metrolink and greyhound, but this’ll cost you 27.50 each way, which is really not bad considering. In order to book the tickets yourself/find some that work for your schedule, go on the Amtrak website and make sure you put those fields- the from station is “Santa Barbara, CA (SBA)” The to is, “Los Angeles - Westwood (UCLA) - Bus Stop, CA (WES)” .

Hope this helped! :)

Oh, and it’ll run you about 3 hours each way, which also is not bad for public transportation.

For the same cost I think you could rent a car for a day, even through Zipcar, though I’m not sure if SB and back will fit within the mileage limit.

Very few college students are 25 or older, the price you need to be to rent a car :)

If a college has a zipcar affiliation for its students, then the rental age can be as low as 18 yo otherwise it’s generally 21+.

Traditional rental car companies like Hertz, Budget, etc are 25+ yo (or 21 yo with a daily surcharge).
