The public transit system is excellent. College students can use it for free, and it goes everywhere. Plus, freshmen have to park allo the way across campus. There are still pros to having a car, but UT minimizing them more than any school I can think of.

there really is no point in having a car...the traffic for cars is horrible plus parking is like $600 for a SEMESTER!!! and the parking spaces are really far away from the actual dorms. The bus system is awesome...it does take you anyway and thats what 85% of the students use there

so the bus system connects you well with off-campus locations too?

well, from what i hear, UT basically takes away the need for a car. everything and anything you would want is within either walking distance or busing distance. however, i still plan to take my car down to austin because i'd like the freedom of being able to come home whenever i want instead of hitching rides (although i hope others dont hitch off of me, lol)

Yeah, with UT, you don't need a car. Cap Metro (the bus system) allows any student with their UT ID to ride free, and that's not just in the UT routes, but all over Austin. I have a car now, but if I decided to go to UT (which is highly possible), I'll probably drive to one of the park and rides that are scattered throughout the city and then take the bus.
