Public unis (engineering/ comsci)

If you're taking the time to read this post, hi! :)

I'm planning to go for computer science or engineering and I've got quite an extensive list of possible private unis already. However, I think I need some financial safeties, so I'm looking into public unis strong in engineering/ comsci with a good honors college that comes with merit aid, or just merit aid on its own. I know of Rutgers so far. Any others? Or even private unis with good merit aid, if those exist?

Check out some of the SUNY Schools… I wanna say SUNY Buffalo and SUNY Binghamton have it, but im not 100% sure-

Try Georgia Tech and Purdue

Georgia Tech

It is hard to get merit aid at OOS publics, so you should look first at your in-state options for your financial safeties. There are lots of quality public engineering programs out there and they are often overlooked by people chasing “selectivity” or “prestige-factors”. Two-thirds of Lockheed’s key recruitment schools for engineering are, in fact, public.

How about NYU_poly…

Being from Indiana I’m going to say Purdue. Some other Big Ten schools, like Illinois have good reputations as well.

Georgia Tech, Illinois, Purdue and of course UC-Berkeley if you can get in

bump
Thanks for the suggestions so far.
I am a US citizen, but living overseas, so I don’t belong in-state anywhere.

Take a look at the University of Texas at Austin.

Many top CS programs are at public schools. Here’s a partial list:

UC Berkeley
UIUC
Georgia Tech
U of Washington
UT Austin
UCLA
U Maryland - College Park
UMich - Ann Arbor
Purdue
UMass Amherst
U Wisc - Madison
UNC - Chapel Hill

In NJ itself, I’d say Rutgers is the top in-state public for CS. There’s also NJIT and Stevens.

UCB, UCSD, UIUC, UMich, UW, UT

Wisconsin.

[Google-based Ranking of Computer Science and Engineering Departments](Google-based Ranking of Computer Science and Engineering Departments)

The study seems a trifle biased but it’s fun. And in any case Wisconsin is universally recognized as having a top ten Comp Sci program. Great engineering school, too, with excellent newer facilities. And on top of that, you’re in one of the greatest college towns in the country.

Take a look at UIUC. All sorts of major tech firms recruit at UIUC, and graduates on average make 70k right after college.

Really? That’s quite high for engineers … especially for civil engineers. Any reference?
