Publics overrated in Peer Assessment rating?

Dude go visit the transfer forums and check out the CC -> UC threads. There's literally dozens of 'em. UC's even have programs set up JUST for cc transfers. Go ask Stern if they have that. If MIke answers the phone he'll probably laugh at you.

SweetY: BS. Tell me the name of the person that told you a lot of transfers that get into Stern come from CC's and I'll report him/her for misinformation. It's almost impossible to transfer from NYU CAS to Stern. CC's have little chance.

I never said a lot of tranfers come from cc. What I said was that NYU accepts the same transfers as Haas does. Haas only accepts 8% of appllicants like I said. I have called the admissions office several times and I have also gone to a information session. Every individual I have spoken to has confirmed that cc students most certainly do transfer to Stern. They also have the same requirements to transfer as Haas.

It sounds like Mike is not very professional. Maybe he should not be in the position he is in.

Stern = Haas and the only reason Stern has better Wall Street placement is because its in the same damn city as Wall Street :)

Thank you Willmingtonwave. Finally, someone with less ego and more common sense. :)

maybe thats because hes going to one of those 3.5 private schools :)

LOL ckmets13...sorry for hijacking the thread

it hasnt really been hijacked, except for when sternman starts babbling about how NYU is better than Berkeley

Please read more carefully. I've only said Stern gets better placement on Wall ST. than Haas. I was not promoting NYU overall at all. BTW If Stern is bad then what is BC? A community college? We trounce your avg SAT by over 100.

"Stern = Haas and the only reason Stern has better Wall Street placement is because its in the same damn city as Wall Street "

EXACTLY what I said. That's all I'm saying so please read more carefully and not just the last page.

Yea, so stern is better than Carroll, big deal. Carroll isnt good, what are you trying to say with that. I go to a school that has more good programs than just its business and drama schools. Maybe if you looked at the SAT averages for BC and NYU, you would see that BC's is higher (though not by much, but its certainly not a community college). I never claimed we had a school better than Stern, nor do I care, since I will never go to business school.

It seems you have forgotten what your initial statements were Sternman so here is a reminder:

"berkeley is not good for ugrad and everyone knows this. it is crowded and impersonal and filled with ta's teaching. professors are always busy and all of berkley's programs are only good at the grad level."

There is also this gem. ;)

" seriously publics are at a disadvantage. i can slack off for 4 years too and get a 3.6 at a CC and go to berkleey or Ucla wowweee. can u do that with good privates? no."

I didn't compare berkeley with NYU at all in that statement. I said that as an overall statement which I still support. The only comparison (NYU wise) I ever did was Wall St Stern vs Haas.

The second statement was also not comparing the UC's with NYU. It's just a simple fact that there are PROGRAMS set up SPECIFICALLY for CC kids to get into the UC's including UCLA and Berkeley. Privates don't have such programs.

So you do not consider NYU a good private then?

" seriously publics are at a disadvantage. i can slack off for 4 years too and get a 3.6 at a CC and go to berkleey or Ucla wowweee. can u do that with good privates? no."

I consider it "good" but not as good as the top 25's or anything. I've ONLY compared Stern to other top schools. Stern is what I've talked about.

I already addressed that statement "The second statement was also not comparing the UC's with NYU. It's just a simple fact that there are PROGRAMS set up SPECIFICALLY for CC kids to get into the UC's including UCLA and Berkeley. Privates don't have such programs."

There are no programs contracted with UCB for transfers from cc such as tap or tag. They are given preference though. For the other schools you are correct.

There is a huge focus towards it (much more than privates). They even had it on their webpage when I was in high school about specific CC transfer questions.

Go to the Transfer Forums and look at the posts and you'll see how popular the CC -> UC transfer thing is. Or go to

http://transfer.berkeley.edu/

I know it is popular. Like another poster said, there are even students who will turn down a 4-year in order to go to cc and try for UCB again. You have to realize that transfer students are not all dumb. A lot of them go to cc the first two years for financial reasons not because they did bad in highschool. I don't think anybody disagrees with you about Stern having a lot of access to Wall St. but not every business major wants to work on Wall St.

Fine, but even Cal kids themselves are a bit mad at the CC thing. There was a discussion a while ago with some infighting on the Cal forums. The same with the UVA forums about transfers. Sure not ALL CC kids are dumb but to say a lot of 'em do it 'cause of financial reasons is not true. I don't know if you've lived in CA all your life like me or have even attended a CA public school but the slackers do go to CC just like any other state! CA is no exception where the smart kids go to CC to save money. CA is not some "super genius" state or anything. it is the same as the others and the CC kids are mostly slackers.

PS: I TOOK a CC class and guess what? It was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo easy. It is basically like high school. Do you think it is fair that people are allowed to be graded on work they should've been able to do FOUR YEARS ago? Why not just let 18 year olds enroll in HS as FRESHMEN (14 years old) and let them get that 3.6 and get into UC's 'cause that is basically what community colleges are.

Actually I was born and raised in Orange County (now I live in LA)although I lived in NY for a year. Many of the people I know go because of financial reasons. Maybe they are the exception to the rule. I promise you though it is not the slackers at the cc's that are getting into Haas. There are many requirements and you need to have between a 3.9 and 4.0 to have a realistic chance.
