A very close friend of mine is exceptionally talented at writing. She can write poetry, novels, songs in any genre.

She would like to get it published in some way, but obviously, she can't just send it to Scholastic. She is looking for perhaps an online portal to publish her work and get feedback. I would prefer it to be "official" so that it can be referenced in college apps, say.

If we are looking at getting a real pub, how would we go about it?

Time is not a factor here, she has plenty on her hands, and loves writing so much, she would give up almost anything else to do it.

Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

I couldn't find a "extracurriculars" forum, so I posted it in the Cafe. If it should be moved, admins (or can I do it?) feel free to do so.

what about your school/city paper?
Use FastWeb to find essay contest scholarships
just google essay contests
besides, her application essay will tell colleges she is a good writer, as well as a recommendation from an english teacher
Good Luck!

FYI, you should have posted this in the College Admissions forum. It's no big deal. It's just that you would get more posts. I don't know if it's possible to move a thread tho. Just make another one if you have to.

She is already writing for the school paper, and we are looking at more avenues. The local paper looks like a good idea, perhaps we can give it a shot.

I was very interested when I looked at the Scholastic awards, but unfortunately, it is only open to U.S. residents. We live in India, so that is out...
