Pulling admissions file?

If we're students at Cornell, can we ask to see our admissions file in the admissions office?

Also, how and where would one do this if in arts & sciences?

I don't know if you can do that....do schools even keep the file on record?? Besides...when you ask a teacher in high school to write you a recommendation you have to waive your right to ever see the letter....looking at your admissions file would be a breach of that waiver.

Well, technically under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), you are given a choice of whether to waive your right to access this information, provided the schools actually keep them.

If Cornell keeps this information, and if you did not check on your forms that you waived access to it, it is possible that you could see them.

Ahhh....thanks for the info. It's been a few years since I went through the college app process so I don't remember all the details of the waivers and whatnot...

muertea...if you want to look at your file...the best place to inquire would probably be someone in the A&S admissions department.

I heard from a Cornell admissions counselor that waiving your right is more beneficial.

what....

well I heard that they don't keep your files, so it doesn't matter.

yeah...I can't imagine if they'd save the files...there are so many!!!
