PULSE vs Perspectives

Hi,

I’m trying to figure out which courses I should take next year as a Freshman, and I really like the idea of taking PULSE or Perspectives because it would only be 4 courses each semester and I am not interested in the other Theology courses.

I have concerns on each and would love to hear feedback about them.

How does the community service with PULSE work. Do most students complete the hours on a weekday or on the weekend (or can it be split up). How much actual writing/reading is there with this (like is it the same as a normal course or less because of the community service aspect). Do you think its too much taking this Freshman year because I am adjusting to college life?

I’ve read that Perspecitves has a great deal of reading, which is pulling me away from taking this. Is it really that much work or is it a normal amount considering it is really two courses in one?

If you want to take PULSE, I would recommend taking it sophomore year. It is a big time commitment and I think it is hard to know how you will be able to manage your time when you are getting used to a new schedule. It is also a lot of time to be away from campus for a freshman while you are still adjusting and getting to know people. People usually do their service in two shifts, for example Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 5.
I did not take Perspectives, but I have heard that it is a lot of reading, but it will not equal two classes. If you are taking other classes like math or science it will be fine.

Thank you so much Green_Apple5. I am in CSOM so most of my classes will be math related, so Perspectives would probably be perfect.
