Our 12 week old puppy recently swallowed a hair band. one of those fairly long ones that fits all the way around your head.

We are very worried about him. Could this be fatal?

=/ My cat swallowed one of my hair bands once, but he just threw it up. It wasn't too big, though, just one of those rubber band kinds. I'm not too familiar with dogs, but I'd assume as long as he didn't choke on it, he's not in any immediate danger. I'm not an expert though, and my answer is only a guess, so I'd call a vet as soon as possible, to get a professional opinion.

it absoluty could be a problem, it could do funky things to his baby intestines, you should take him into a vet asap!

yes take the poor thing to a vet :(

Well its stomach acids could probably digest it? you never know. Or it will regurgitate it within the next few hours. I dont recall rubber as being one of the foods that is harmful to dogs.

My dog is quite a superdog. He ate half of one of those giant bars of DARK chocolate (which is supposed to kill dogs) and nothing happened o_0. I swear, he has a digestive system of steel.

just keep in mind it's a puppy so it's had less time todevelop an internal tolerance of sorts for weird things. It could have a metal piece on it, and there could be nylon. Depending on the thickness it could also block his intestine or something, just get it checked out asap

OK! we made a vet appt. for tomorrow morning!

I think that it would be cheaper to just get another puppy. The're a dime a dozen. The cost for an operation might be in tens of thousands.

wow, that was so completely unnecessary. You don't throw away a life because it's cheaper to replace it. There are hundreds of thousands of babies up for adoption around the world but that doesn't mean that if yours gets sick you let them die and buy another baby or make another baby.

Well if you are really rich then I guess you can get the puppy treated, but if you are average to poor you really have no choice but to let to puppies die.

or you take it to an animal shelter and they will treat it--you then have to give it up, but if you can't afford to treat an animal if it gets sick you shouldn't have it in the first place. If you had a kid you wouldn't just let it die cause you coulnd't afford medical care. I'm not gonna get into this, letting an animal die is wrong. period.

So you think that that kids are worth the same as animals. That is simply not true. Letting an animal die is not wrong in all circumstances.

when the dealth could be prevented it absolutly is wrong.

let me re-phrase, when the death could be prevented and isn't only because it's "cheaper just to get another puppy," it is absolutly wrong.

kids = animals ...except some animals are better behaved. :p

Letting a puppy die is just wrong. Noob, I hope you're kidding (in poor taste). Don't get an animal unless you can afford to take proper care of it.

Thank You!

There was no way we were going to let our puppy die! Whoever thought that is extremely mistaken. You obviously don't have a dog, but if you do, they really do become part of the family.

how is the puppy?

he's doing ok. it ended up coming out the other end just a few hours before we went to see the vet so all is well!

My dog has been known to eat coins, screws, towels, and hair bands. Somehow, he's still alive at 2 years. When I first read the original post, I for some reason thought that by "hair band," lollipop meant a hair metal band...wow...I need some sleep.
