b/c im an international student, i plan to purchase the dell computer once i arrive on campus. do i get the laptop immediately after the purchase? or do i have to wait a couple of weeks?

my undertsanding is that you will have to wait a few days if you order throguh Princeton, becase they don't keep a stock on campus. I don't think the wait will be lnog though.

I'm an international student too, and I purchased the computer and asked for it to be delivered to the center for international students at frist. Of course, I contacted the director, Mrs Paula Chow, in advance to let her know, and she was very willing to hold the laptop there until I arrive on campus to pick it up. As far as I know, it's there already.

Princeton '11 here. approximately how much does this laptop cost?

I think you can expect it to cost between $1500 and $2000, depending on model (excluding shipping costs).

Is it true that you can use outside scholarships to pay for the laptop if they exceed your self-help?

To current students: do you think it's worth it to buy a laptop directly from Princeton, or should I just pick out one myself?

It definitely is. I'm not sure whether it is cheaper but the school-ordered computers have their settings configured to connect to the network, so that it is easier to print and save documents on the network. It also comes with most of the software that you need pre-installed and your email will also be set up. Still, if you choose to buy the laptop on your own, it wouldn't be too difficult to get all this done once you get to campus.

OK, thanks! Do you know when's the earliest we could buy one from Pton?

how do i pay by instalment? can i take out a princeton loan to finance my computer purchase?

superpig10000: yes.
btlesgirl: it depends--buying an sci computer is more convenient, but it's really very simple to configure it yourself. buying from the apple store may be slightly cheaper, but it's ultimately up to you to decide whether the extra money is worth the convenience.
last year, the sci store opened mid-june (if i remember correctly)

Thanks quirkily. Do you know how much does the Macbook Pro cost exactly? (There are 2 models)

About the same as at Apple Store but without the software.

princeton '11 person: is a desktop or laptop the way to go? $ not a problem

and what model do you reccommend? im leaning towards mac
