Have been given a choice to waitlist with no guarantee or choose alternate major.

I want to pursue Mechanical engineering only. What are the chances to waitlist. they did not give me any engineering as option to choose. The closest is Exploratory studies for which I can opt for engineering in the first term and depending on the grade be admitted to engineering. How feasible is this route?

I have been given choice to be put on the waitlist (for same major-Computer Engineering) or apply for an alternate major in an alternate college. How are my chances if I be put on the waitlist?
