Purdue course numbers?

So, I’m looking at AP credits and then at graduation requirements. AP credit is awarded for 5 digit numbered courses, and some of the freshman courses are 5 digits.

But when you look at general ed electives, for example French, you can take French 101 which is beginner French.
AP credit is for a 5 digit number. Is AP French is useless? Same with econ micro and macro. AP is for 5 digit course number, but required course is 3 digits. Why don’t the numbers line up?

Are you looking at a current degree plan or an old one? When I look at the catalog for this year, all French classes are 5 digits http://catalog.purdue.edu/search_advanced.php?cur_cat_oid=9&search_database=Search&search_db=Search&cpage=1&ecpage=1&ppage=1&spage=1&tpage=1&location=33&filter%5Bkeyword%5D=french&filter%5Bexact_match%5D=1

Here’s the AP transfer guide: https://www.admissions.purdue.edu/transfercredit/collegeboardap.php

All Purdue classes are five digits.

It looks like Purdue changed to 5-digit course numbers around 2009 or 2010. French 101 was changed to French 10100, etc.
Your AP credit will be accepted, but you need to find a current plan of study.

Part of the confusion may be that it is common to refer to the course by just the first 3 digits. Everyone says they are taking MATH 161 when in reality it’s MATH 16100.
