I was suprised to see that at Purdue, Computer Science is under the Science department and not the Engineering department. I know the engineering is nationally ranked, but what about CS? Is it ranked high up there with engineering and if so what is its ranking?

The only rankings I've ever seen for computer science are for grad schools. According to U.S. News Purdue is ranked #18 in grad schools for c.s..

Yeah, I'm really just trying to figure out if Purdue is a good choice if I want to become a software engineer. I know Purdue has Computer engineering, but that's mostly hardware. I figured the best path to a software engineer is through computer science, but I'm not sure if Purdue has a good reputation for that like it has for its Engineering dept.

i started in the Computer Science major. then transfer to engineering. I found my experience at Purdue's CS to be pretty rewarding, in there I learned alot and how to understand a bigger picture of programming.

I also heard that the CS dept. is getting a new hi tech building.
