Son admitted to engineering and to the Honors College. ACT 34, top 10 student in his class, 11 APs, 4.0 UW GPA. Georgia resident so likely headed to Georgia Tech although waiting for a few more decisions.
My son didn’t got into CS first choice. He got deferred to 2nd choice major which Computer and Information Technology, in the Polytechnic Institute. We are OOS.
Son got selected to Exploratory track. OOS. 10K Merit Aid
We are surprised for merit aid. Did not expected that. Now Purdue is serious contender for us.
1480 SAT 4.0 GPA Decent ECs. 7 APs (3 as senior) - with 4s or 5s.
Son didn’t get CE (first choice) and deferred for Data Science(2nd choice). OOS,4.0UW, lots of APs(all 5),1560 SAT, good ECs, decent essays. Very disappointed.
Son go his acceptance today. GT/Honors Student. 3.8 GPA. 3 APs so far (two 5s and one 4), with two more to go. Lots of ECs, including working full time. Econ major, Krannert SOM. 1K in Merit aid. Kind of small, but, due to the low OOS cost, still may be a good deal. Will have to see the total cost. He has received some pretty good scholarships thus far everywhere he has been accepted, both public and private. However, Purdue is the best school he has gotten into thus far.
I will say, we attended a recruiting open house in Atlanta a few months back, and the Admissions rep said that the acceptance rate for non Engineering/CS majors was like 85 percent, but for Engineering/CS it was like 35 percent. My son actually changed his major after hearing that.
Doesn’t seem right. Yield protection may be, so don’t be disappointed, stay strong!
I know someone with similar stats, OOS, got rejected FYE, got in second major.
No discipline issue. We were hoping for an acceptance with a little merit and there was a good chance his college search was over. But life isn’t fair and hopefully he will be accepted to another top school.
