Purdue engineering

"Can you talk about the people over there? Any girls? clubs? what to do for fun? You mentioned the classes are super hard, does that mean no social life? what dorms do you recommend for oss? thanks"

Zac, if you're interested in a school that has a fun environment then you might want to check out UT-Austin.

Yea, location definitely hurts Purdue. I don't really mind, being from Indiana, but I can see why those not used to the stereotypical Midwestern landscape could be put off by it. I think the social life is fine, you just have to find your niche. If one is looking for Greek life, it's huge at Purdue.

In regards to someone talking down about Purdue grads, I remember when I was deciding between Purdue and Rose-Hulman, many practicing engineers whom I talked to were more complimentary towards Purdue grads. You'll find plenty of both great and poor Purdue engineers, just like every other school. Granted, it seems like many of the poor ones do like to try to hang on to the Purdue reputation than add to it.

I got into Biomedical engineering at Purdue, but I am from Illinois and I did not want to spend $35,000 out of state tuition. Instead I went to University of Illinois at Chicago and I love it here.

I'm a junior in high school and I'm, let's say, very familiar with Purdue. Many of my friends' parents are professors at the university and I've done research under professors at purdue. I can't quite comment on the level of academic rigor, but I can talk about the town and school in general.

In my biased opinion, purdue is a very approachable school. Besides the traffic, the campus is very open and relaxed (the public transportation system is good). I must say that diversity is big around purdue. East Asian and Indian make up a pretty big part of the ethnicity break-down. This is not to say that purdue is devoid of attractive people.

yeah, purdue is no ivy league, but the caliber of its engineering school is top notch. I know someone who turned down caltech for purdue. Personally, I would never go to purdue. I'm a big city person. Indiana in the wintertime is downright depressing.

Purdue has one of the best engineering programs. I know it though I am not in America. However, I am concerned about the internship in Purdue, as it is located in a small town not a huge city.

Purdue is a great engineering school. However, having lived in West Lafayette for about 10 years now, I can safely say that West Lafayette is the most gut-wrenchingly, achingly, mind-numbingly boring college town I have ever been to. I’ve spent varying amounts of time with friends in East Lansing, Knoxville, and of course Bloomington and the environment in those college towns just blows West Lafayette out of the water. I’m a high school senior and I simply cannot wait to get out of this place. Don’t get me wrong; West Lafayette is safe and certainly not unpleasant, though the Purdue campus isn’t exactly easy on the eyes. But I can’t imagine what any college student would do around here short of going out and getting smashed every night, as that appears to be the only “entertaining” thing to do around here.
