Purdue or Binghamton?(Computer Science Major) PLEASE HELP!!

Hi guys, I got acceptances at Purdue(CS)/Binghamton(CS)/Syracuse(SIS) and was decided to go to Purdue since I know it has great computer science programs. However,I just received the financial aid packages from those school and getting stuck by the financial problem.
For Purdue, I have to pay $38000 after financial aid and my family can only afford $5000 a year(since I'm in a single parent family), which means I have to get the remaining all by loans.
In the other hand, binghamton only cost me $7000 after scholarships and financial aid.
I really love Purdue (great environment, strong academic ability, job opportunities)and actually kinda ready to pay for the loans, but it is worth? And for binghamton, I just didn't heard much about its CS major and how's its job opportunities at CS field?
So, just wanna get some opinions from anyone knows/experienced these schools
THANKS FOR HELPING!

No! That is not worth it. That is an untenable amount of debt that your parent–not you–would have to qualify for and take in their name. Do you know that your parent has to start paying the loan within a few months of getting the allocation? And the next year the payments will be double and the next year triple and after Sr year quadruple and you will be paying yours as well by that time? Unmanageable. If your parent couldn’t make a payment, you wouldn’t get any more money and would have to drop out. You could not go to school until your loans were paid of. Nightmare.

Birmingham is completely respectable in CS. CS programs at the undergrad level in a decent program are not all that different. Take the offer and don’t look back. You will have job opportunities. And do well there and stand out. Take advantage of opportunities to do projects or research. Then when you are older and wiser, you can decide to take loans in your name and get a Master’s or not. Maybe you will get a good job and employer benefits pay for Masters. You will likely have less debt and a stronger degree and you can ‘trade up’ to a more known name if necessary at that time.

@Brownparent Thanks for your suggestion. As far as I know, the parent plus loan can defer after the graduation, but true, the debt will be unmanageable. I had calculated all the loans and the cost will prob around $1300/mon for 10 year repayment immediately after my graduation.
I’m still considering and really having a hard time…because I really love Purdue :frowning:

Yes you can defer it so it can become an even bigger nightmare. Good for you for calculating it out but off the top of my head that sounds low, I calculated something recently for 100000k and it was higher. google ‘student loan calculator’ if you didn’t use one. And make sure you account for the interest on those deferred years. And add in your own student loan payment.

You can get a Master’s for 80k, I think, from Purdue. Or UW Madison, it is higher ranked and you will probably need research to get in but most grad students get funding even MS. Now you have a MS for the same or less or maybe free. Just sayin’. From the webpage:

For Purdue, the $33,000 above your family’s $5,000 contribution is far too much for a student to reasonably be able to self-fund.

For Binghamton, the $2,000 above your family’s $5,000 contribution can be covered by a federal direct loan (not even the full amount needed), some work earnings, or (depending on how the nominal cost of attendance is calculated) frugal living.

Seems like the choice is obvious.

Binghamton is ABET accredited for CS (generally considered sufficient, but not necessary, to indicate a decent quality CS degree program).

@BrownParent Thanks for reply. What about syracuse? it accepted me for System and Information Science, seems like syracuse has a higher ranking in this field than binghamton, tho I didnt get the FA award from it but from friend who has similar situation as me, it does cover a lot and ended up almost same cost as binghamton
