Purdue or Rose-Hulman?

I‘m an international high school student who is admitted by Purdue University and Rose-Hulam Institution of Technology. I want to study EE in college. I want to know which one is better and more famous in engineering area? And if I want to study in graduate school in the future, which one can help me to prepare for the graduate school?

Congratulations, those are very nice admits. I think you should spend the time to read everything about these two colleges. They will both have their own strengths and attractions, and perhaps shortcomings too. They are very different in environment in my understanding, although I can’t say I have done a lot of research. Did you read all their own pages about the school, about the major? Did you look up the major requirements? The general graduation requirements? Did you research class size? Find any information about how many really graduate and in the major?

Each of these will prepare you very well for graduate school if you do well, seek out opportunities for projects and research too. There is no question of that. Is there any significant cost difference?

I could list features but you may have to pay me a dollar for every point I write. Or you can read for yourself. Probably in your country Purdue is more well known. It is a major public research university. Rose Hulman is less known because it is smaller and graduates less people but it will be well known to grad schools and employers, since it is a tech only school and 20 pct of students go directly to grad school which is a goo rate. They also have a much higher graduation rate than Purdue, but that is because a lot of students aren’t prepared enough for college at public universities and they fail out or run out of money. The strong students have amazing resources at Purdue. However you are going to have much larger classes with TA’s and less individual attention than at Rose Hulman where only profs will teach you, at least at first. But there will be a big school atmosphere some will enjoy more, sports and a variety of different types of people. Also more girls, maybe not so many in engineering but overall 45 pct women where Rose Hulman is 80 pct men. And that is just the bit I know.

Both are excellent for eng’g.

Purdue will offer a lot more socially-wise.

R-H is in the middle of nowhere and is heavy male.

RHIT small class sizes, much smaller population.

Purdue larger classes, much larger student body and more diverse opportunities for things to do outside your area of study.

Completely different schools.

Good luck!

Purdue is a major research university while R-H is an undergraduate-only institution. You can certainly get research experience at both but at Purdue, you may (if you put effort into it) be able to get involved in a research project alongside graduate students and post-docs. Both have ABET accredited engineering programs so the quality of the degree is assured.

Both are very good in their education programs, but as has been pointed out, having a male-dominated class as at RHIT does tend to change things a bit, and not for the good. I went to a school similar to RHIT and can tell you I will actively discourage my son from doing so - the lack of women on campus plus the remote location makes for a less than ideal social environment.
