Purdue or Virginia Tech?

I was denied by Purdue Engineering but offered admittance for Undergraduate Studies. I know all about the internal transfer and don't think it would be too difficult to get into the College of Engineering for Ecological Engineering, but it would push me a year behind. I was also accepted into Virginia Tech for Engineering, but I feel the resources there just don't compare to those offered at Purdue. This decision is driving me crazy and I would really appreciate any input.

I would still go with Purdue…but even though ur not in engineering does it stop you from taking a few first year engineering classes?maybe you could do that…

It does not stop me from taking a few of their classes, but I still would not be involved in their set program.

I transferred to Purdue in business because I didn’t think I’d get into the engineering school. My first term here I took all engineering classes, your advisor might look at you a little funny but they let you take whatever classes you want. Transferred into engineering my second semester.

Depending on what area of engineering you want to go into, you can utilize the Math and Physics majors and still get into engineering without transferring. Computer Science is an example of this because a student can pretty much construct a Computer Science degree within the Math major.

If you live in virginia, go to tech. If you live somewhere else, go to purdue. save money.

the first year engineering classes at Purdue are
Chem 115
PHYS 172
MA 161
MA162
CS159 or CHEM 116 or BIO 1xx
COM 114
ENGL 106
ENGR 195 Part I
ENGR 195 Part II.

Of those, as an non engineering student you can take all of those but the bottom two, and you would need a 2.8 or a higher after your first semester to transfer to Purdue Engineering. Basically you would be two courses behind and you could easily graduate in four years. I mentioned my opinion on where you should go on the Purdue thread, so I wont restate it.

I don’t know if they’ve changed things since, but ENG195(I,II) used to be combined into a class called ENG126 - I was able to take ENG126 my first term at Purdue while I was still in the business school… Also, never take all these rules to be written in stone. Almost every prof/admin I’ve asked has bent the rules for me - whether it be to take pre-reqs and their follow up at the same time in order to graduate sooner, count transfer credits towards my degree that didn’t come in with a perfect Purdue course equiv, ect.

yea ENGR 126 and 100 are now combined into ENGR 195 part I and part II

Go wherever is the cheapest. Your choice between these two schools will NOT hold you back.

Well I know how much more the Purdue degree is worth. I do want to attend grad school though.
