Purdue University

According to one website, I have a 75% shot at Purdue University. Accepting this as a fact, what would be my net price that my dad will have to pay from his pocket?

Yes, I researched it by myself and it comes out to be $48k, which he cannot afford. Therefore, I would like to know....

I took SAT again, but previously I scored (450 CR + 660 M + 520 CR) with 3.8 GPA

Most of the net price calculators are fairly accurate, so this is probably correct. I’m assuming you are not an Indiana resident. Did you also apply to schools your family can afford?

If you are OOS for Indiana, then yes…your cost would approach $50,000 a year at Purdue. And it’s not likely that you will receive merit aid there. The school draws a lot of top applicants for its engineering programs.

With regard to need based aid…you will definitely get a $5500 Direct Loan.

If you want to get an estimate of YOUR net price at Purdue, run your family financial figures through the Net Price Calculator on the Purdue website. If your parents are not divorced, are not self employed, do not own their own business, and do not own addition real estate to your primary residence, you should, get a decent estimate of your net cost at Purdue via the NPC.

I can’t afford that much. My parents don’t even make that big money ;/… Ok, I guess.

Then you need to find a more affordable college…or one where your stats will garner merit aid.

As a rule, public universities do not give much in need based or merit aid to OOS students. Their first responsibility is to the tax paying students who reside in their state.

Look at your own public universities.

I live in Saudi Arabia. Could you be munificent and provide a list for an International student like me? Maybe this list of yours can help others as well.

You have several other threads going at the same time. It’s very confusing. Could you please pick ONE.

You are an international student. Your likelihood of getting any kind of aid at public universities is very small!

And PS…the net price calculators will likely NOT be accurate for you as an international student.

This thread is restricted to Purdue. Others are different.

Good point.

Your stats are not impressive enough to garner significant merit aid from Purdue.

You are not eligible for federal or state aid at Purdue.

That leaves Purdue institutional need based aid…which usually goes forst and foremost to instate residents.

With your stats, few schools will give you anything. There may be some schools that you haven’t heard of, or haven’t considered, but schools like Purdue are filled with students that are stronger or similar to you so Purdue doesn’t have to give them money.

The most Purdue would give anyway is only about $10k for much higher stats, so that will not make the school affordable.

It looks like you have an 1100 M+CR. That won’t get merit at schools like Purdue.

Safety: Iiinois institute of Technology,
<<<

???

how is IIT a safety??? What did the net price calculator show? can you copy/paste the results?

How MUCH will your parents pay each year?

Right…while less expensive than Purdue. Ailing is Institute of Twchnology isn’t affordable for you.

Please ignore my post number 2 on this thread. It is not correct because at that point, I didn’t know the OP was an international student. He is NOT eligible for a Direct Loan at all…or any other federally or state funded need based aid. He is not a resident.

In addition, his stats are modest compared to the international pool of applicants. He should be looking for sure thing admissions…and maybe in his country of origin.

This is direct copy/paste from the IIT website.

aprrox. 20k/ year.

So…can you pay $30,000 plus a year in out of pocket costs? Your OP implied this was not possible.

So how can this school be a safety? It is not affordable.

Thought I would do this line by line so it is easier to read.

Your Net Price Estimate Estimated Cost of Attendance

Tuition & Fees $40,117

Room & Board $10,800

Books/Supplies $1,200

Miscellaneous $1,600

Travel $960

Total Estimated Cost of Attendance $54,677

Estimated Merit Scholarship: $16,000

Estimated Need-Based and Other Grants: $0

Total Scholarship and Grant Estimate: $16,000

Work Study: $2,450

Estimated Total Assistance: $7,950

Estimated Out of Pocket Cost: $30,727

Can you give me lists of universities that is cheap and is better than average schools? Apparently, I cannot find one. I would say, although you are correct in your sound, after retaking the SAT, I assume my score to be better than at least 1630. So if I were you, I wouldn’t make judgement on 1630, but on 1630+…

It is getting way too late to apply for admissions for merit awards…the big ones…at most any school that offers them.

You are an international student…and your least expensive option is to study in your own country…where the costs will be more favorable.

All right, in such case, thanks for all your amiable help, thumper1. Thanks, buddy.

To late to edit above post for Illinois Institute of Technology.

You are NOT eligible for the $5500 Direct Loan. If it’s federal work study, you are not eligible for this either! International students are not eligible for federally funded aid.

So, your net cost there would be closer to $39,000 a year.

And that is assuming that the school gives these merit awards to international students.
