Purdue vs Case Western - Computer Engineering!

Hey guys, I was accepted to Ohio state, WPI, northeastern, Purdue, Case western reserve and UWashington- Seattle for Computer engineering.
Of them I’m deciding between Case and Purdue.
The Cost of Attending Purdue and Case is almost same ( 10k/year scholarship) ,
Case isn’t ranked as high as Purdue, but I’ve heard its a great school! ( Classes are smaller, higher prof availability etc)
Could you guys give your opinions on these 2 schools? ( Based on quality of education, grad school prospects and the social life there?)
Thanks a lot! (International student)
Any thoughts on these schools would be appreciated :stuck_out_tongue:

I think Purdue has a better reputation for engineering overall nationally. The only drawback is that Purdue is a large state school, and you will just another “number” on campus. You will get a lot more personalized attention at Case, which will be critical as your coursework gets more difficult. However, Purdue is still a great choice and it’ll ultimately come down to fit. You won’t go wrong either way.

Social life wise, Purdue will certainly have more going on.

Thanks  @espacio123‌

I would go to UWashington/Seattle if you got into Computer Engineering there.

@eth0up‌ any particular reason why?

I did get comp engineering at Uwash!
Thanks

  1. You have Microsoft/Amazon/Boeing right there.
  2. If you are coming from India, weather in Seattle won't be a shock.
  3. CS department at UW is very good.

Having said that Purdue engineering is very good as well. If you are interested in Hardware/ASIC design/Electrical engineering/Nanotech maybe go with Purdue but weather will take some adjusting.

And…Case Western is good for Biomedical, Chemical engineering.

A huge difference is the size of the schools. UW and Purdue are roughly 10x the size of Case. This makes a huge difference in community and ability to get to know professors. Case has roughly 4300 undergrad, but many resources that are unusual for a smaller school like the 50,000 sq. ft ThinkBox facility, incredible Internet, important government research, and surrounding medical facilities. Think of Case as a place that you will not be anonymous and will have access to great resources and teachers. Think of UW and Wisconsin as academic cities where you will be a number and they will have decent sports teams and more party atmosphere.

Thanks

“Accepted to UW Seattle Computer Engineering”: are you sure? UW at Seattle doesn’t accept internationals in this major directly from high school, you have to apply at the end of your second college year or when you have enough prerequisites…

@SingleChild yeah, you’re right. I got the email for ’ we give direct admission to only a few students’ you are in pre-engg, something like that, after I checked my official transcript and posted the question :stuck_out_tongue:

You cannot go wrong at either Purdue or Case Western for almost any major. Biomedical Engineering is stronger at Case Western because of Cleveland Clinic and University Hospital research options. Even with Case being a smaller school, there are tremendous research options and also well known in academic circles for outstanding science math and engineering. Purdue while very large, has a great feel to it for helping kids not fall through the cracks. If you want to minor in music or listen to classical music, Case is the better option. Art and music are very rich in the Cleveland area, and the city is much bigger and more interesting culturally than West Lafayette Indiana. Case is right next to Little Italy with its bakeries and outstanding restaurants. Case has more of an east coast feel, Purdue has Big Ten football and a midwestern feel. Case offers a much more urban campus, but quite safe with very reasonable housing options all four years and a free bus pass to get to the Lake Erie waterfront attractions. (My son attends Case in physics/math but we visited and know lots of students at Purdue).

Thanks!
