how do u define 'better' and an 'edge'? in terms of faculty strength and academic quality - i don't know. some people claim NTU engin is better, but i doubt the academic strength of NUS engin and NTU engin differs much really. but one thing for sure, NUS definitely enjoys a higher prestige among the local students. the a level entry score serves as a guage to this claim. The hardest engineering course to get into at both universities is, arguably, chemical engineering: I have friends with AAAA B4 (General Paper) getting rejected at NUS Chem Engin whereas friends with AAC and ABB got into NTU Chem Eng - albeit after a discretionary interview. Rarely do people choose NTU over NUS if they have a choice, unless they are offered a scholarship at the former but not the latter, or if they want to major in Accountancy (which NTU is arguably best at coz SMU is a new university and NUS only began to offer it this year) or Aeronautical Engineering (which no other universities offers). And by the way, the local unis have a very numbers-based admissions criteria. So stuff like CCAs and extraordinary talent count very little. Well they do count for like 5% - but even then your entire CCA record is reduced to a number. For the locals, that is.

And the boring image that NTU is projecting doesn't help it's popularity either. Even the up-and-coming SMU seems to be snatching students away from NTU's (and NUS alike) fortress faculty - Business.

here at India thou the situation pretty different...
its a common feeling here (B'lore) that NTU is significantly better...slso their presentation seem lto be more impressive and they market their place better...
but...ur the guy who sees these places daily...u should know better

wasup .. just ask yourself:
Are you the party-type or nerdy-videogame-type ? If the later, choose NUS
Would you like to live in Singapore (an extremely small country with a close knit community) or america (the land of oppertunities with plenty of jobs, travelling oppertunities, research oppertunities)?
Do you get intimidated by a large campus? are you shy?? then choose NUS
Are you interested in fields like humanities, literature, drama etc as well? (NUS is probably better in that regard)
Would you like to go to different countries for a semester or two ? NUS is pretty good for that
Is cost a factor ? NUS BABY!

oh cost. the local government is really damn kind to internationals (granted, they have their not so hidden agenda of bringing in foreign talent), extending almost the same tuition grant to them such that intels pay almost as little as the locals! That's like 1/7 of what u wld pay at Purdue.

well i dont think i'll sign the bond if i choose nus so the bond is immaterial...well purdue is arnd 57lakhs and NUS arnd 36 so it is a big difference...

NUS is very highly regarded in the US too . My uncle works for VERIZON and he says that they love to recruit NUS students because they are really good and more importantly, WORK THEIR ASSES OFF!

Purdue is really well-known for engineering in the North America. And Nus is well known only in South-east asia.

I'll say if it's the job prospects, the big engineering paychecks (50-60k anuually) and if you really intend to work in the US, then choose Purdue.

NUS is by no means comparable to Purdue in 'high regarded' in the US. By any means, Purdue is more well-known in the US.

I'm not saying NUS is lacking. It is very good as well. It's the number 1 in Singapore, and number 4 in South-east asia.

Good luck in choosing wasup! (I got purdue too, but aint goint)
