Hi!
What do you think of Purdue compared to Rice?

I know Purdue is better in engineering but what about the recognition of Rice, since Rice is about 19% admission compared to 60% of Purdue?
Remember that i am on a scholarship and may never be back anymore :( so i need to take the prestige into account too..

Thanks in advance! :)

Overall prestige is far less important to engineering employers than engineering prestige.

The admission rate for a given school has very little if anything to do with the quality of that school and more to do with whether the school is public or private and how many people apply compared to school size.

All that said, Rice is still a very good engineering program. You can’t really go wrong with either option in a general sense.

Go to the school with the better weather. Purdue =)) As much as I hate Midwest weather (after 3 decades) Houston weather is a major challenge…

Rice’s admission stats look nice but keep in mind that they may only be admitting a few students per year, I know it’s in my daughter’s list for graduate architecture and they only accept like 24 kids a year, some really small number.

My parents have lived in Houston for the last 20 years. Honestly, I would rather attend Engineering school in a smaller Midwestern town like Ames, West Lafayette, Lawrence, Urbana than in a big city like Houston.

Everything is easier in a smaller town, easier to get around, the cost of living is less, much safer and although there is much more to do in a big city like Houston, the experience here in small town Midwest is more personal, IMO

I am sure there are people who would rather be in a big city but I don’t like the hustle and bustle of Houston.

Although Rice U is located in a very nice area, I used to hang out a lot around the U of Houston campus area and the concept of an university being so close to the ghetto was always a bit weird :)
