Purdue vs UMD for CS

Both are OOS, the costs are similar after UMD’s scholarship. Any opinions and recommendations are highly appreciated. Thank you!

Both are solid programs. Have you had a chance to visit? This often helps a student decide where he/she “belongs”.

Fwiw, I’ve found seven different CS rankings, and the programs average out just about the same. Just as they are tied in the popular USNews rankings.

Based on visits, and my older daughter’s experience (2021 MechE grad), Purdue was an easy choice for my younger daughter, accepted to Honors program at both.

I don’t think we will have a chance to attend Purdue’s For Me as they are all booked out. We may just have to visit ourselves.

My D had both schools on her list for engineering. Felt that they had similar vibes but also picked Purdue.

Happy to answer any Purdue specific questions that you may have.

We visited both and my son chose UMD for CS. I am a Purdue grad. He really liked the campus, program and closer to home. We live in NJ. I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice! Good luck!!

My son will visit both during his school’s spring break next week. Thanks for your reply!

What did he decide? What are your thoughts regarding the campus of each & programs?

He visited Purdue and UMD campuses during Spring break. He likes UMD more and just committed. I am a UMD grad. :slightly_smiling_face: I didn’t accompany him for the college visits for fear of influencing his decision. But I am happy that he chose my alma mater.
He also prefers UMD’s location, with its closeness to DC and Amazon’s second headquarter nearby; hopefully, it will provide him with some good intern opportunities.
