Purpose of Honor Societies?

My CC has a bunch of these but I'm not sure if it's even worth joining. All it seems is that you pay a membership and that's about it. Like if I join Phi Theta Kappa or Alpha Gamma Sigma would it help me get scholarships or accepted to universities easier?

It comes down to what you do in the club. If you just attend one meeting per year to pay your $10, then you might as well not join. If this organization gives you volunteer opportunities, then it would be a good idea to join.

Since colleges know that most of these honors societies require like a 3.0+ GPA and nothing else, I can’t see how they would find an honors society applicant more attractive than another applicant.

^ Agreed.

Use your honor society to help you locate volunteer work that you might be interested in. At the end of the day though, it’s just another EC to throw on your application.
