So what is the purpose of the midyear report if you are applying regular decision? Is it for acceptance/rejection decision purposes or for possible rescinding purposes/just to check that you don't slack off your senior year?

i think it's to make sure that the acceptees don't slack off, and to measure the potential acceptability of waitlistees.

For regular decision, the midyear report, containing semester grades, is usually considered in the admissions decision (except for the few schools, like the UCs, that specifically state that they don't consider senior year grades).

Most RD schools do not consider Freshmen and Senior year grades too.

Actually, i_fate, most RD schools do consider Freshman and Senior year grades. That's why some kids try to bring up both their GPA and their rank during the first semester senior year.

It is only those schools that specifically state that they do not consider Freshman and Senior year grades, that do not.

What are RD schools?

RD = Regular Decision

When do colleges get the midyear report? Feb?

nononono i meant "rolling admission" not the regular admission.
sorry if I confused you guys for using wrong abbreviations.
most "rolling admission" school do not look at your freshmen and senior year grades, and I confirmed that with many counselors.
