Purpose of peer evaluation

I'm a bit confused. Is the purpose of a peer evaluation to prove you have friends or good relations with your peers? I find it hard to believe they'd take the peer evaluation too seriously since any normal person will ask a good friend and any normal person will write a shining eval for their good friend. So, really, what's the point?

the relationships with your friends will be different than those with your teachers, so it will just give them a little more insight who you are.

I personally think they can tell the difference between a very positive peer rec and a ‘glowing’ one.

You can say extremely nice things without seeming sincere. They are looking for unique things about you. Also, they will want to see consistency with what your teachers say.

If the teacher says you are really quiet, and a friend says you have a token ‘great sense of humor’ they won’t give as much weight to what the peer rec says. I, however, don’t think that it could possibly hurt you. (I guess it could just not help)

Hmmm. maybe it gives a different side of you. assuming they’ll take the peer rec to be sincere: teacher recs might show a quieter person, especially if the student doesn’t know the teacher outside of class too much. i think it’s rare to find a student who’s exactly the same around adults/teachers as around their peers. that might seem over-assertive, but that’s just my take on the purpose of peer rec. :)

^That’s true; people act differently in different situations/around different people.

Hopefully you are picking a teacher that knows you personally.
