I feel like most of us who are taking it are already highly motivated students with excellent grades in school and good AP (IB too?) scores to prove that we have a firm grasp of the subject. The subject tests seem really redundant and pointless to me, not to mention annoying. Why do they require these scores?

Actually... I'm just really ****ed that i have to review/relearn so much stuff ahahaha FML because I was only vaguely aware of it in my sophomore year. I would've surely gotten 800s on math&world history if I'd taken them last year... UGHHH

...still, I'm curious to exactly why they require these test scores.

I would not say “most” – a lot of my friends in schools that don’t offer APs are still taking subject tests. It’s just another way to show level of mastery in a subject, along with grades/AP scores/etc. It can also show the relative difficulty of your class. It may say I have an A on my honors Bio course (…I don’t…) but if I scored a 500 on the Bio SAT II, that drops in value. But if I got an 800 on the Bio SAT II with a B- on the class, maybe my school is just more challenging than most.

not a money-making scam. AP exams are harder. SAT IIs are for those who don’t have access to AP exams and courses, and don’t want to take such a high level exam. also, what serenen said.
although, yeah, it’s still pretty annoying

AP Exam scoring is too broad and general to be considered in admissions. Say for a specific curve on one test, you get a 98 raw score, that could be like a 5. Get a 97.4? Now you have a 4.

Personally, I thought SAT 2 World had harder multiple chioce questions compared to the AP World test. Plus, AP had essays too. (I was good at the essays)
