pushed to RD

what are the typical chances of getting into 'nova if you're not accepted through EA?

depends on your stats i guess

I was deferred, too. This sucks.

same.

well more people get in during RD. EA is mainly for the ultra-competitive students. dont lose hope guys, we still have a decent shot.

deferred as well
i thought i had a good chance for EA…

gpa: 3.4
SAT: 1430/2180

gpa: 3.6
ACT: 31
notable ecs: president of habitat for humanity, president and founder of the business club, varsity basketball captain, service trip to PA with habitat
full ap/ib

i thought this would get me in:

Filipino from Hawaii

haha i guess not. oh well i really hope this doesnt kill my chances for good need based financial aid. it mustve been my class rank that killed me (only in the top third, i saw a stat where 99% of admitted are in the top 25%).

i think they select the highest GPA/SAT combinations for Early Action and lure the most competitive prospective students with scholarships

By March, many of those students will have chosen other schools, therefore we should have a very good chance for regular decision.

those are just my thoughts.

Wow, that actually makes sense. I like your thinking, arsenal. Hopefully we both get in.

did i make it harder for myself applying straight to the business school? i feel like it’s such a competitive major that this really made things difficult

My DS got deferred also. he was on a roll of 4 out of 4 with merit money so the deferral brought me, his parent down to earth. He is taking it well, while I’m “How dare they…:)” My DS was nominated for a Presidential Scholarship so now he has to write the 7 essays without knowing if he is in or not. It would have been a more pleasant task over break knowing he was accepted to Villanova.

Thanks also to everyone else. It makes a lot more sense know. Good luck to everyone and i hope there are more acceptances in your futures.

i got deffered too but who cares i got into BC CSOM so nova your loss

congratulations on BC. that’s an excellent acceptance. i didnt even apply to bc because i knew i was going to get rejected haha. i was accepted into northeastern yesterday with a 14k/per year scholarship, so if i dont get into nova RD, at least i have another option haha.

Yeah I got deferred. Got into Fordham, UMichigan, and BC though. Was a little surprised? Oh well! BC is at the top of my list at this point.

what were your stats JGA and which school/major did you apply to? that seems strange

i got deferred too :frowning: and powerplay, i definitely have to agree with you, VSB is probably, if not nova’s most competitive school and of course we chose to major in business

SATs: 2100
GPA: 4.0 unweighted, my school doesn’t do a weighted GPA so not sure about that
ECs: president of spanish club, original creator of an annual school charity project, three jobs (secretary at a law office, country club waitress, nanny for a severely disabled boy), tutor in foreign languages and other subjects at elementary schools and middle schools, student dance teacher, soloist in a ballet company, flute, piano, student ambassador for People to People, participant in my high school’s foreign exchange program (traveled to Mexico and hosted 2 students from Mexico), writer of a published blog in a college newspaper, member of lit. mag, national honor society

Other info:
Hispanic, did campus tour, won the Bryn Mawr President’s Book Award, solid essay(s) and recs

*Sorry to be so specific and lengthy but any feedback? I felt pretty confident about I suppose

Applied arts undeclared to the college of arts, planned on going for journalism

I was deferred as well :frowning: Villanova was the 1st college I applied to, so it was a bit of a let down. But when one door partially closes, another one opens.

Certainly appears that way. If true, they stand a chance of getting burned by wasting acceptances on those least likely to matriculate while those who are better matches, but are deferred, work harder to get into other schools or simply move Nova down on their list.

I think it’s a bad strategy. And so much for holistic admissions. Some people are getting into BC and UChicago, but deferred by Nova? That’s laughable.

its a terribly strategy in a long term view, but to push their rankings up, Villanova (along with other schools like Tulane) utilize tactics like this.

essentially, they are upping their stats profiles. it will hurt them if they continue to do this.

Well, not 100% across the board. My son was accepted Early Decision this year and his stats, while good (and well within published 50% ranges) are below those posted on this and the EA Acceptance threads. At least in his case adcoms really did evaluate his application holistically because he had truly exceptional recs and significant school and state leadership ECs, along with (probably) pretty good essays. In his case, the GPA, rank and test scores were “good enough”, but the other factors likely put him over the top for admission. Villanova remains his #2 choice after a top 20 reach school (applying RD).

As usual, results for CC posters are skewed on the high end.
