Put an end to misery and torture

Can someone please tell me that as a college-bound 17 yr old, it is incredibly way too early to concretely focus on law school, and that i must focus on how to have a successful first year in college; also that the appropriate time to focus on law is after your first or second year of college. I have been ridiculously torturing myself with the extensive "preparing for law school" trend which law is about 4-5 yrs down the road. I incredulously believe that it's too early but i need someone to tell me (you just need someone to tell you so at times for assurance). End my hysteria please.

Relax, it is too early to worry! Finish high school, go to college and do your best. Speak to the law school advisor once you get settled in.

You shouldn't start worrying about law school until you're at least a junior. Don't think of college as a stepping stone to law school, think of it as an end unto itself. You'll do better.

Then again, if you were looking at med, now would be the time to look at MCAT ranges and plan a pre-med track. Good luck in ugrad and eventuall law! I know how you're feeling...my brother's applying to law schools this fall.

Edit: By 'track' as the person below me pointed out, I mean fufilling the reqs and choosing a major that you are interested in - because you are usually told to finish your reqs as quickly as possible.

There's no such thing as a pre-med track. Any major is good for med school, as long as you take the prereq courses.

"There's no such thing as a pre-med track. Any major is good for med school, as long as you take the prereq courses."

I believe that's what he/she meant. lol.;)

As far as the OP...Somebody gave great advice on a different thread, so I'll just repeat it: Watch cartoons!!! :D

applesatyr,

The edit makes your post a lot clearer, thank you.

Just enjoy college everyone, after that it's off to the salt mines...

If you're a college-bound 17-year-old, I think it's too early to focus on having a successful first year in college. I think you should focus on have a fun, relaxing summer break.

I truly thank you all for your inputs, however, responding to Greybeard, I believe that during the break, I should continue to stimulate my mind with useful academic knowledge just to make academics during school less difficult.

I decided to go to law school during the second semester of my senior year of college. Some of my classmates decided to go to law school when they were 30. If that can't end the hysteria, I'm at a loss.

Amen! Senior year, and I was 29! Calm down, and enjoy your youth

I agree with everyone else who advised you to chill. It is a mistake to always look so far ahead that you never see what's around you.

By typing on this forum, you've already entered the freak fringe of early preparation. Do nothing more - that would be WAY too much. ;)

Hey Doctor, you got a PM. :D

Two things:

Don't get burned out.

Do well enough (i.e. above a 3.0) first year so that you aren't killing all chances of a good cumulative GPA.

Lol, ConcernedDad. I will admit that I felt "behind," in that I was competing against people who knew for years that they wanted law school and were able to structure their course work so as to get good grades (i.e. not being engineers and taking quantum mechanics as an elective). A lot of people in my class were in their late 20s or early 30s and had just decided to go to law school.

"not being engineers and taking quantum mechanics as an elective"

Isn't that attractive? ;)

Thank you all, I am now stacking all of these "Preparing for law school" papers in one nice portfolio. And label it "Do not open until Xmas 2007" :D

Yay! Also write "email Aries, 2007 grad" in there.

To each his own.

And...

Keep a journal of the cartoons watched -excellent analytical training.:D

As I said - to each his own.
