I put a deposit down on the first college I was going to. I just found a college closer to me that is now offering the programs I wanted (it wasn’t before). I already applied yesterday to that college. Will the second college see my deposit on the first college? I met with an admissions counselor from the second college today and told them straight out that I found them after I had put the deposit down but I still would rather go to their school. Should I just keep the first school deposit just in case (to be safe) just in case I don’t get accepted into the second college?
There’s no problem leaving your deposit on the first school. Wait and see if you are admitted to school #2, and if you are and decide to attend, you can cancel your deposit at the first school. You may receive a partial/full refund. You just want to avoid double depositing, so if you deposit at the second school make sure you cancel at the first one.
Thank you so much for answering!!
The common application has you agree to pledge not to have two active deposits at one time. If your 2nd school accepts you, it’d be unethical to place a 2nd deposit w/o withdrawing the deposit for the first school beforehand. That’s it. Imagine if it were a betrothal. Only one at any given time.
Good luck!
yes I definitely do not plan on putting a second down without taking back the first one. Thank you for answering!!!
Be aware that you will likely lose your deposit at the first school, but other than that it is no problem. In fact, it happens all the time.
I have no idea of it
