Put editorial in as essay?

Hi, would it be a bad a idea to submit an editorial you wrote for a newspaper as your second essay to some schools that ask for a second essay, like Harvard and Princeton. I really think the editorial shows my passion better than my other essay would, but would they look down upon the fact that it was in our school newspaper. would they even know, or care?

Is it obviously an editorial?

I don’t think they would care. I mean, it doesn’t say “You must write a newly written essay just for the Harvard supplement essay #219.” Does it?

If the “editorial” actually appeared as an unsigned editorial, meaning it appeared as a statement made by the editorial board of the newspaper, then imo you must not use it, it does not belong to you.

Perhaps it appeared in the newspaper as a signed column of yours. Are you sure that that column is more personal, detailed, honest and revealing about *you/i–and therefore most helpful to you–than any other essay you have written or could now write?

yes, it is a column of mine, not by an editorial board,
