Put my mind at ease.

Hello, I am re-posting and revamping a thread that I posed months ago. I, like many others o fus, am going absolutely crazy running all possible scenarios of admission and rejection in my mind. None of my family members, or close friends have ever gone through the admissions process, and because of that I have no real clue as to how my odds are.

I would like an honest opinion so that I may focus my concentration on schools that I have a realistic chance for transfer in Fall 2014. I would also like suggestions for any private universities as many of them are still accepting applications. Thank you all for making this process easier!

GPA: 3.63
IGETC: Done

Pre-Reqs: All that my school offers are done + took some pre-reqs at UCLA with a 3.85 gpa, now every pre-req is done.

Major: Poli Sci / History /Communications, getting 3 AA's (Applied as Poli Sci)

ECs: Student President / Honor Society / Honor Program / Orchestra / Founder of College Marching Band / Invited to Carnegie Hall for music / Part of local campaigns / Ran for office within my political party

Work: Tutor for upward bound

Update: My GPA is now 3.69 because of my Fall 2013 grades. I have all A's, 3 B's (all in math), one C (First semester) :(

Applied to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI

You have a very good shot at UCSd and UCI. UCLA is kind of 50/50 and same with UCB. Good luck man.

I would say your a lock for everything but UCLA and UCB. Im a polisci major also and applied to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and UCSB. Good luck!!!

Can someone please chance me. I’ve posted on here and have yet to receive answers. I messed up and got a D my second semester and the next semester came and I didn’t do so hot either but my GPA is 2.8 and i’m majoring in Clinical Nutrition hoping to get accepted into UC Davis. Assist classes are almost close to being done and after this semester I will only have 2 more classes left. My IGETC courses will be done with after this semester as well. Someone PLEASE give me hope lol

@Firefly94 - for UCD they don’t post their stats by major so people on here are just going off of what last years admissions got in.

Based on that you are not considered competitive for your major at any UC. You would easily get into Merced though.

UCD with IGETC and Assist all complete is a 50/50 of you have a 2.8 GPA.

Is the 2.8 including fall grades? If so you may want to look into CSU’s a few are still accepting applications until the end of January.

If you had a 3.0+ for UCD and all Assist done along with IGETC is say 75/25 and that’s a stretch but I’m taking into consideration your completion of coursework that will allow you to progress quickly and they like that a lot.

RETAKE your D class that’s a definite recommendation and if you do that and don’t get accepted then you can appeal cause you have better GPA then cause you retook it.

That’s my advice

Thank you all for the information :)

OP, you’re likely a lock at UCSD and UCI. Wouldn’t be surprised if you got into UCLA and/or UCB. Good luck. My advice is to not get too worked up. Focus on Spring semester. Get good grades and finish up strong. Before you know it, April will be right around the corner.

Sorry to OP I don’t really like it when people hijack other people’s threads but that person seemed desperate for some kind of an answer

@nickkwooddd: Good luck in transferring, may we both get what we want!

@Snorlaz: Very sage and wise advice, I will try calming down I just wanted a little bit more information and thank you to all who have given it.

@Matt4200: No problem this whole website is for helping people in any way we can :)

I’m just curious now if there are any privates I should also be looking at.

@Jacobi6

The claremont colleges are good private schools.

How interesting! We have the same major and applied to the same schools. Anyways, I think you are good for UCSD and UCI. UCLA and Cal, I’m not sure it’s 50/50 as some said above.

And I would look into USC. If considering privates in CA.

Ooh :slight_smile: I wish you the best of luck. I am so nervous 50/50 is a tedious point to be at. I was looking at USC but was worried my chances would be poor. Thank you for the wise advice.

Best of luck to you too! :slight_smile: And I actually think you have a fine chance at USC. The average GPA admitted is a 3.7 (transfers) but you have good extracurriculars that could give you that push. You never know, right?

I have a question, I know it might sound funny or petty but I am wondering; would my chances at USC be hurt at all by the fact t hat I took classes at UCLA? Lol.

@Jacobi6

It shouldn’t, lol
