I have been told by many people that most of the people on the wait list will get accepted, because of the economy this year and other reasons…

It’s actually the contrary. Because of the bad economy, many students will be “forced” (by financial constraints) to go to the in-state public universities, which in most cases are cheaper than private or out-of-state universities. This means that schools like UT Austin will probably see a higher yield rate (i.e., a higher percentage of admitted applicants who actually decide to enroll). The higher the yield rate is, the fewer people will be taken off the waitlist.

… bump

UT has never had a wait list before so there is no history of knowing whether they will get to the wait list or not. We can all guess but we have nothing concrete to base our guesses on. Sorry. Good luck. I hope all cc’ers on the wait list get in! The stats of some CAPed and wait listed students are so high. What a year!

haha Yahoo! to the rescue. i thought this featured article is clever and those desperate few on the waitlist might want to take a look.

[Dirty Secrets of College Waitlists - The Daily Beast](http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-03-30/dirty-secrets-of-college-waitlists/)

Well that’s true but you also have the cheaper public schools in Texas that many students that applied to UT also applied to. For example Texas State and Texas Tech are about $2,000 cheaper per semester. This equates to $16,000 less for 4 years. Another choice for Texas students is ACC (which is cheap because of being a community college.) Also A&M is a little less than $1,000 less a semester than UT is.

If I accept A&M right now, can I change my decision if I find out that I got accepted from the waitlist?

You would lose whatever Texas A&M May 1 admission confirmation deposit A&M is asking for but yes, people who get off wait lists do that all the time. You have to commit to a college by May 1, so commit to A&M (a great school), but then if you get off the UT wait list, tell A&M you have changed your mind.

I am also in a rigorous program in dallas that is similiar to the Texas Academy of Math and Science where alot of students here have been waitlisted rejected, and capped due to the non ranking status of the school. I feel the top 10% law is a bunch of crap and due to it many students who are far more qualified for the seats in the freshman class at ut at a&m are having to resort to other lower tier schools. I got waitlisted at a&m and capped at ut…

soccer_playa, I am in the exact same position you are-- my school does not rank. I think I’m going to do CAP in San Antonio, even though I have earned 45 college credit hours at my early entrance high school program. My other choice is to attend Texas Tech and try to transfer into UT, but that’s definitely a bigger risk. Have you decided where you will go?

My child is in a similar position. She should have 30+ hours through dual credit and AP. They said (per website and UT visit) it could be difficult to get enough classes in the CAP program. Anyone with experience in this? Maybe they need to expand the class selection for CAP students.

Has anyone heard anything further about the wait list?

flatxca, this will help, I think.

Go to the interactive degree audit area of the UT Registrar’s web site.

Put in all of dual credit and AP classes and choose the right school and the right major from the 2008-2010 catalog, and run a degree audit. Then she can look at all of the requirements she has not met yet and see which can be CAP classes to see if CAP will work. (There are really quite a few distribution credits needed in the UT college of liberal arts, if that is where she is headed - I remember thinking too bad my D took a year of AP World History but not a year of AP U.S. History - we had no idea she was heading to Texas for college - AP U.S. History would have been much better for Texas state requirements…)

I know that Tyra Collette got off of it and admitted to UT after writing a really poignant essay about her hard life and what she has learned from it ;)

LOL! I had to Google that! :D

If only it could be that easy!! When my husband and I saw that, we said, “Yeah, Right!”

(I knew someone would Google it!! ;))

Did she read any of her letter on-air? Ds could use it next year. Of course, he’s never been left in a bar by his drugging, gambling bf. Uh, not that I know of anyway!

Here’s a link to the episode - I tried to find a transcript of it online, but couldn’t - BUT, if you haven’t watched it - it is worth it! The letter is about 1/2 way through.

WOOPS!! It links it to last Friday’s episode! You have to go to the week before - 4/3/08.

http://www.nbc.com/Friday_Night_Lights/video/episodes/?vid=1081084#vid=1081084

There it is! 1/2 way through - “I want an interesting and surprising life.”

Me too!!

Absolutely beautiful story telling and message!

I had to google it too… I hear that is a really good show.

So no one has been accepted from the waitlist? Does anyone have an update on our chances?

BTW, since the decisions are made so late, does that mean there won’t be any dorms available (I’d hate having to use community showers)?
