Put separated as parent's marriage status...

My parents live in separate households, but I didn't know if the "marriage status" had to be what is legally documented or not. Legally, they are not separated, but they technically are. They still file for taxes together as married. I don't know if this counts as an error or not? The common application didn't specify if it had to be a legal or simply physical separation. Should i notify the schools?

I would say “separated” and if they give you any trouble explain the situation - they should give you plenty of leway because your parents are separated.
