Yeah, CMU doesn't give fin aid to internationals. I still think you should give stanford a shot though. It's not too bad being with the masses. ;)

Not when that mass includes all the typical CC ians.... probably the best group from the whole country...not to mention the fact that I am playing safe this year....after being rejected by 5 last year in senior year..MIT, Duke, caltech, upenn, yale to be specific.. but i am reapplying there anyways...so...its playing safe..yet not quite...don't know where i will end up in

Your ECs are quite impressive, at least for an international.

Most of your college choices dont have Engineering but do have CS. If u are thinking ivies, i guess you could try cornell but it would be a High reach. So is stanford for that matter.

well..last year i was rejected by MIT,duke, caltech, upenn, yale in my senior year...but i am giving one more shot at them this year along with the 15 colleges...but i am bouyed by the fact that last year one fren with 1910 sat got into harvard and one with 1860 got into duke..so in a way...i am quite hopeful..at least counting on all luck i have yet another time...

The one with 1860 wasn't applying for aid was he? If he was he must have had super stellar stats other than his SAT score.

Well i m sure u kno this by now but i m still gonna say it. SAT scores arent tht important as ppl percieves it 2 b. Ofcourse haviing a handsome score helps but to be accepted at a reputed college, all the stats has to be spot on. The essay has to stand out. After the essay has captured the attention of the admission officers, it can point them 2 ur respectable ECs andacademic records.
I m sure ur 2 friends had similer stats to u in terms of academic and EC bt they produced a more complete app. work on everything properly and i m sure most of the colleges on ur list wil accept u. may b even stanford!!!

well..one thing...what might the officers look at first?...i think its our transcript..isn't it?

This is how I rate the importance of things:
1.) GPA (transcript) --> Very Important
2.) Standardised Tests(SATs, SAT IIs, TOEFL, AP, etc)
If you are within their acceptable limits in the above two, then
3.)Extra-Curriculars
4.)Essays
5.)Teacher Recs

This ofcourse is for the normal application.

shail, you have fairly decent A level grades and EC looks good...

i think you could try Cornell as an ivy reach. the college list you provide is a tad humble. i think you could try higher but if its cos of financial reasons then that would affect the list very much.

Cornell accepts you and then screws you by providing no aid.

in addition to my list of 15, i am (re)applying to MIT, DUKE, Caltech, Yale and Upenn as well.....the thing is... my high school allows only 15 colleges for me to apply...since i had applied to those 5 last year as welll..(not to mention i got rejected by all..lol)..they are not going to be counted in my list of 15..and regarding cornell...well for a person requiring a lot of aid..i guess that would not be best choice...(i am paying 2000$ by the way).

Hey,just apply through commonapp and you could reduce your work and increase your efficiency!!!Well, cornell does provide fin. aid but its hard to get......(I myself will be trying for that!)
btw,in which field u want to major in shail619?(is that 619 of Rey mesterio?)

You bet it is of high flying Rey Mysterio....was a big fan of his... .Computer science I guess....I am applying through common app..the problem is the GC writes just 15 recos for me..not 1 more than 15...

Simply photocopy them and then get them all signed!!

it is not that easy for us issac...our guidance coucellor posts the recommendations herself and we can not see or photocopy them..btw i am in the same school as shail619 who surprisingly likes rey mysterio when he himself looks like bigshow....lol

hehe....nice one 6126...

Well,I cant help u then,it depends on your impression on the counsellor, and on her mentality, just try to convince her,if not then you may REPORT her in higher positions and the best way is to involve your parents....(they would probably handle the situation...)

issac...that doesn't happen in our school......even 15 colleges are hard to handle for her...no way will she take any more....the problem is she has other responsibilites as well in the school....like teaching and pastoral duties...so no question of trying to convince her..and moreover..15 colleges are enuf i guess...isn't it?

lol, well yes 15 colleges are actually too many(for me atleast as I wiil be applyin to atmost 12 in US itself!)...

way too many...but then if its for fin aid then understandable yeah...

do your "match" evaluations include speculation on fin aid packages? as in, match means : get into sch with enough fin aid and not just get into sch?
