<p>I have this compulsion and force of habit to start any essay I write with an anecdote. Would it be effective to start the essay with an anecdote on the SAT, though, and then put the introduction/thesis, or just start right away with the introduction/thesis?</p>
<p>I’d recommend you start with intro&thesis and use your anecdote as one of your examples.</p>
<p>An anecdote is not necessary to start an essay, but if you feel that it would improve your essay, then by all means go for it.</p>
