Putting off PE requirements until senior year

Can you think of any drawbacks to putting off the required PE classes until senior year?

Not having as high of a strength of schedule?

It’s awkward to be the biggest/oldest person in a PE class, but this would probably only be noticeable if you were a senior in a class full of freshmen or something.
There are more opportunities to take advanced classes junior/senior year compared to earlier, so I think it’s best to take required non-academic classes early. (Most people don’t do this, but I was able to take all my senior-year classes at a local college because I didn’t have any more graduation requirements at my high school.)

My daughter never finished PE…they gave her a waiver so she could load up on AP…

I’ll have room for all the advanced classes I could possibly want to take (they’ll mostly be PSEOs), since my school isn’t very big. And at worst I’ll be probably be stuck with sophomores and juniors who don’t care about grades that much with the PE classes I’ll take. So anything else?

How did that work? What sort of school did she go to?

My school let me get out of it by exercising outside of school and writing it down, but I’m still not sure how I got away with that.

Our school participates in an online program with BYU. It is independent study. He took both a semester of bowling and another for tennis so he could take additional AP courses. The other advantage is not having to deal with a sweaty gym class in the middle if the day.

How did you get a B in it then? @halcyonheather

They require two PE classes. I took the first one at school freshman year.

Do you think it will hurt college apps if they see I have PE scheduled for senior year?

I think colleges will understand since different high schools have different PE requirements.

I’d recommend taking grad requirements like PE as soon as possible - even if you weren’t really inclined to load up in APs your senior year in lieu of Gym, free periods/blow off classes your senior year can only be possible if you aren’t bogged down with grad prereqs.

I think it’s better to do all your requirements early so when you are a senior you’ll have more time to just relax.

@ThatOneWeirdGuy …sorry I just noticed that you asked me a question. Worked well. She goes to a very small rural school. There are about 80 kids in her class. She does do dance 5 days a week outside of school so I think we had a good argument. Her twin sister had to delay PE. Finished this year. She was fine with the younger kids. Did not bother her a bit. I don’t think colleges care, they understand that scheduling is tough in small schools.

At our high school kids take PE senior year to not have it as a low weighted course in earlier grades.
