Putting the responsibility of kids futures into their hands..

That is what I feel highschool is. Lately ive been thinking, Highschool should really be 5 years long. I feel that that majority of kids, still don't entirely realize how their actions in school affect the outcome of their future. In all honesty, thats what we are. Kids. As grown and mature as we all think we might be, we've only been in existence, when entering highschool, for little over a decade.. I understand one builds their own future, but I feel that for the sake of future generations and the teen population that is currently enrolled or entering highschool, should endure a 5 year highschool year, simply establishing freshman year as a prep for what is to come during the next 4 years. **** man.. kids in general are ignorant, I moved to new york from nj, in jersey I was taking college prep bio (sophmore) and in NY turns out freshman take bio their first year.. so I was placed in a freshman class to complete my bio, this girl who skipped every day, didnt give a **** about anything, told me yesterday, while conversing about what colleges we wanted to go to 100% dead ass serious, being the last day of school, that she was going to Harvard. I started laughing and said "It's nice to have aspirations and all, but your not going to Harvard, you failed 3 classes, you didnt even have notebooks this entire year". She believes that harvard is going to accept her solemnly on the fact that she PLAYED lacrosse, she was dropped for her grades.. Todays youth needs direction and nurturing. reality still has not set into our minds for the most part, but for those of you who are bright enough to realize how things work, more power to you.

/rant

What you are saying makes sense, but personally I would hate another year of high school. After spending time around the same kids for four years, I am ready to move on to a more academic setting. Personally, I think that possibly making post-graduate years more prominent would allow the less-mature students among our ranks to spend another year while preparing for college, while still allowing people like me who are sick of high school to move on in the normal sequence.

yeah that would be a really good advancement in the educational system.

^^ My (high) school has 5 years… We start in 8th Grade.

I could complete the whole HS curriculum in 2 years (or less) considering how much time is wasted in class, how often the teacher gets distracted, etc.

Yeah, what’s with school never being productive?

^^ That’s what we do (in 3 years starting from 8th grade)! After that (AP btw counts as hs curriculum) after that the teachers teach whatever the hell they want for the final two years.
