I think you should try the Ivies :)

I’m actually applying to columbia! But I might choose HKU over it if I get BBA Law.

Anybody! please chip in!

Why are you putting HKU above Columbia???
Financial reasons? You can get financial aid or scholarships…

Well I don’t qualify for FA at Columbia, but I still want to save my parents 150k+

I really like the course, and the city. There are also some other personal reasons.

What do my chances look like? Reach? Match? If only HKU published acceptance rates and average SAT scores or something…

I checked out the HKUST acceptance rates
Upper quartile: 2190, median: 2030, Lower quartile: 1980
I guess the HKU data would be slightly higher

Honestly I am glad that we are in different lines, since I am non-jupas and you are international
You are getting in I think, but it also depends on interview, especially you English speaking skills.

dubyawhy, I just got some really disheartening info…I am not sure if you want to hear about it

what? what is it? just tell me lol XD

In the history of HKU Law, no one with a SAT score lower than a 2250 had ever been admitted

AHAHAHAHA! You’re joking…right?

I am not. I made several calls to the school last night.

but honestly I think you are fine…all the programs you have joined and stuff you did are just amazing

Thanks!

Well good news - SAT score came in. I got 800 CR/710 M/750 W. 2260!

2280 superscored  So I guess I’m above 2250 after all?

anybody else wanna chance me?

Hi, I’m also an international with similar credentials to yours, I was wondering if you were thinking of applying early? Does anybody know the admit rate for early/regular decision candidates?

^Tried for ages. Admission office won’t tell anybody anything.

I’m not applying early because I’m applying to over 15 universities in 4 countries. Fast-track candidates only have 2 weeks to accept admission offers…

Oh? Where else are you thinking of applying?

@hongkonggirl Can you tell us your sat scores and other grades?

@theasiansadness: check out her other threads; She has that info.

@hongkonggirl:
Columbia, UChicago, Northwestern, NYU, UC Berkeley for USA
Oxford, LSE, UCL, Durham, Warwick for UK
NUS and SMU for Singapore

The intl admissions dean actually came over to ours and told us that law, medicine, education and business are the most popular choices so correspondingly the toughest to get in admissions wise. Don’t think they were as keen on ECAs to be honest, he also said that the average IB points for the top four majors were around 40 to 42…I know someone who was predicted 45 got a 44 and started med school at HKU so I imagine the caliber will be similar for law as well. Does anybody know if all offers are conditional at these unis?

@dub Haha very similar school choices for both of us, I was also a Cambridge applicant until I realized a 776 in my HLs weren’t going to happen before the 15th of October…did you apply as a Law major to all your UCAS schools? Did you get any offers back yet?
