Hopefully previous or current students will jump in to answer this question. If you are not either, but know the answer based on your research, please feel free to jump in.

What are the class sizes for intro courses? Example, intro to economics, psychology, biology, chemistry, computer programming etc. I understand the average class size is generally smaller, but the intro classes are usually the outliers by a wide margin.

I spoke to my freshman child about class sizes: He took 4 classes in the fall, with sizes of 12 (FYS), 14 (Literature), 22 (Intro German) and “about 40” (Intro Physics). This semester, his physics class is down to “about 22-23”, and his calculus class is about 20. He said that the other German section had 8 people, but he couldn’t switch because of a scheduling conflict. He says that all of his profs know him and interact with him on a first name basis.

It seems like a reasonable guess that class sizes range from 10-25 except for the intro classes, which may run a little higher.

Hope all this helps. He is very happy at Wooster and is working hard.

My freshman D’s classes were about the same size, the largest was her Chemistry since not enough students did well enough in the test at orientation to start at that level and they combined two sections into one (of course they kept the 8AM one to her chagrin!!). The FYS (they divide the freshman class among all the choices to keep them at 15 or so per) and Intro to Psychology classes were ok since there plenty of sections, and the Intro to Anthropology class was small as well.
