Are there any programs that I'll need to run on my own laptop for classes? If so, what programs?

I recently purchased a macbook pro and I'm debating whether or not I need to run XP on it.

Thanks in advance! :)

Matlab for E7

solidworks and autocad for E28 (assuming the newly reformatted E28 or E10 will be using these programs). keep in mind, if a specific program is needed for a class, you'll have access to the ME labs in Etcheverry to use the program, though many students prefer to work on their own laptop/computer.

Yup you need Matlab, it's used for many MechE classes, not just E7, but I think it works on the mac. I don't know if there's a mac version or what. You'll have access to the program during your lab time but I doubt you'll get the assignments done...you'll very likely have to use your laptop for them outside of lab.

Will I have to pay for these programs if I want to run them on my computer or will I be provided with an educational version?

...or do people generally tend to "share" with each other?

yup, you'll have to pay. But from I observe, people are generally "altruistic" hah.

You have to pay them the same way you have to "pay" for music.

Gotcha, thanks!
