have any of you ever met with a transfer admissions councellor to the particular school you want to transfer into in person? i have a meeting at Cornell with one of the councellors (actually the only transfer councellor for CALS) and i'd like to know what to expect. i understand that its informal and for our benefit, so basically its a Q and A, but is it deeper than that? do they give you insight as to what kind of applicant you will be?

If anybody has had any experience with this, please give me some feedback as to what to expect. Even better, if anyone has met with a transfer advisor from Cornell specifically, that would be excellent.

also, i'm planning on taking a copy of my HS transcript, my college transcript thus far, a print out of my next semester schedule, a print out of each course i took from the course catalog, and a draft of my "why cornell" essay. is there anything else i should bring?

I have met with admissions counselors from my top three choices. While they were all helpful, all of them were informal meetings. They are not going to guarantee you admission or anything. I would suggest having all your questions ready as they are there to answer them. None of them really gave me too much extra information but they did give me peace of mind about my ec's and course selection.

I would hope that meeting with a transfer admissions couselor would not improve anyone's chances. For the most part transfer students don't have the advantage of being able to meet with them. Some 2000 miles separates me from the admissions counselors I'd like to talk to. I have, however, been doing a lot of phone work.

They have off campus receptions. They are for freshman but if you wait until the end you can speak with the counselors. It was very helpful but they are not going to answer "What are my chances" type questions.
